Brian Eno "Here Come the Warm Jets" Album Review

Essential Eno
Brian Eno has quietly been one of the most influential pop stars of the century.. The brains behind some of the biggest movements in 70's, 80's,90's and current popular music - Eno does not get half the credit he deserves and is kind of in the shadow of glam stars such as David Bowie..

Here come the Warm Jets was his first solo attempt after leaving the popular 70's group roxy music.. It is one of his best albums and shows a very experimental and yet highly accessible stage in his career..
Laced with bizzare lyrics and even stranger electronic instrumental moments, Here come the warm Jets is one of the most original experiences of 70's glam.. with songs like baby's on fire and needles in the camels eye - eno proved there was life after roxy music..

I would highly recommend this album along with the first 2 roxy albums as a fine introduction to the early stages of his career.. After that you might want to check out his work with David Bowie and the classic talking heads albums he helped to produce.

This is a Brian Eno video i made for a special internet friend named Dana. The video then touches on the unanswered questions about 9-11. 911blogger.com register with them please Here Come the Warm Jets is the first solo album by Brian Eno The album's musical styles range from aggressive garage rock ("Blank Frank") to serene Beach Boys-style reverie ("On Some Faraway Beach"). Eno enlisted a large number of guest musicians to play on the album, including three members of Roxy Music, guitarist Robert Fripp and bassist John Wetton of King Crimson and members of Hawkwind and the Pink Fairies. One of the most notable performances from these guests is the cacophonous three-minute-long guitar solo by Fripp on the song "Baby's On Fire". "Warm jets" is used by Eno to describe the distorted guitar in the title track, which evokes the sound of a jet engine. Eno himself claims that he often chooses words for their sound. The album provided Eno with modest success in the UK album charts, and would in fact be his only album to chart for the remainder of the 1970s apart from 1978's Music for Airports. In 2003, the album was ranked number 436 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Here Come the Warm Jets was recorded at Majestic Studios, London during September, 1973 by Derek Chandler. It was mixed at Air and Olympic Studios by Brian Eno and Chris Thomas. Album cover photography was by Lorenz Zatecky with design supervision by Carol McNicoll and artwork by C.C.S. Associates. 2004 Original Masters re-design by Andrew Day of The Red Room/EMI. Nickelback "Live at Home" Album Review

Quite fantastic...
I recently recieved this as an Easter gift. The format that Amazon descibes isn't exactly correct. They say this is live, when the CD is not, but the DVD is. I have owned 4 copies of this disc since it came out in '01, because I played them to death. This is absolutely worth the money. Plus, if you're an Alice In Chains fan there is a little bonus. On the live DVD, Nickelback+Jerry Cantrell perform "It Ain't Like That", a song off of Alice In Chain's "Facelift". I highly recommend this live DVD+CD set, it's one of the best.

The Beach Boys-Carl and the Passions "Holland" Album Review

Cream rises to the top
I see alot of swipes being taken at the album "So Tough" and to be honest it is a great offering. At this point of their career the hits were not coming because FM radio had changed the landscape of what sold in America and Brian Wilson was lost in a drug induced state of melancholy bliss in search of his masterpeice."So Tough" came on the heels of "Surfs Up" which restablished The Beach Boys but as the title implies it was "So Tough" to move on without their creative muse and visionary Brian Wilson. Like Pink Floyd who moved on without Syd Barret The Beach Boys moved on without Brian Wilson to create a recording with contractions of what was to come on "Holland". Tracks 7 and 8 of "So Tough" sound very much in the vein of "Holland" and it led to that album. "Holland" may be the cream of both of these recordings, but it never would have seen the creative light of day if it wasn't for the growing pains and experimentation of Carl and the Passions/So Tough. It is a gem,not to be overlooked but to be valued as a blue print for other Beach Boy albums to follow.

Rolling Stones "Limited edition" Album Review

"Kick me like you kicked before..."
A rock `n' roll masterpiece if there ever was one, Exile On Main Street is a raw, nervy double shot of ragged musical goodness. Like Chuck Berry before them, the `Stones have distilled rock `n' roll to its glorious essence, serving up track after brilliant track of wild, edgy, evocative, and cathartic music. It's a gorgeous alchemy of blues, country, rockabilly, soul, and gospel, performed with the kind of beat-down mud caked boogie rock savantism that made the Rolling Stones' music so great in the first place. People who complain about this set's lack of standout songs have obviously never listened to "Rocks Off," "Rip This Joint," "Shake Your Hips," "Casino Boogie," "Tumbling Dice," "Sweet Virginia," "Torn & Frayed," "Sweet Black Angel," "Loving Cup," "Happy," Turd On The Run," "Ventilator Blues," "I Just Want To See His Face," "Let It Loose," "All Down The Line," "Stop Breaking Down," "Shine A Light," or "Soul Survivor." Not while they were in the right kind of mood, anyway. Highlights include all of the aforementioned tracks plus... well, that's the whole album, isn't it? This is pure sweaty, paranoid genius, and one of the greatest albums in history. Buy it.
